Xenomorphs, also known simply as the 'Alien'.
From the brilliant mind of Ridley Scott;
Prometheus, the prequel to Alien, Aliens, Alien 3, and Alien reserection. Alien Vs Predator, AvP 2, AvP 3 I think is coming out soon- AvP extinction for the Ps2, all the alien games for ps1, AvP for the Ps3 and Alien- Marines which is coming out very soon, all help build a picture of this outstanding space critter and how it lives.
Xenos live in hives, much like large reptilian insects, dominated by a Queen. The ranks are split into many- Queen being the highest, Pretorian being queen-ready aliens, so princesses if you're being blunt, Warriors, Drones, Runners and many others.
Laid in large fleshy eggs, the 'facehuggers' (first stage of the alien life cycle- hand-like, spidery creatures that have a long prehensile tail) only burst out when a living creature comes within range. They attach themselves to the face of the living creature, using their tails to cling to the newly found 'hosts' throat. This prevents removal- for, with their acidic blood, they cannot be cut away, nor can they be pulled away as they tighten their grip on the throat. The host is put into a state of comatose whist the facehugger keeps them alive by feeding them oxygen- only to put a small tube down the throat of the victim to implant the real alien behind the heart and lungs. After 'dying' and dropping off, the host will wake up with minimal time left to live before the 'chestburster' (a small, grub/snake-like creature, the third stage of the life cycle) pushes itself out of the chest of its host, violently killing them. The small, relitively defenceless creature then retreats to pupate into an adult alien that will continue to shed its skin until it is fully grown.
The alien takes up the traits of its host- so, four legged animals such as dogs become runners, larger, more intellegent creatures such as horses may become drones, and humans become warriors. Predators, when impregnated by an alien, will hatch into PredAliens. Pretorian facehuggers, however, will always become pretorian adults- they are the only pureblooded aliens.

By the way Horses become Bigger Runner they're quadrupedal; only intelligent and bidepal creatures made drones and warriors
